Montana Antelope

I hear the Mule Deer are taking a big hit in Montana. How about the Antelope in 700 and 600

I'm trying to decide if I should put in for antelope in MT.  I've been wanting to draw my tag and my son's so we can then go to WY next year, but it's not good in lots of that state too.

All reports I have heard say that it has been an average winter for deer in eastern Montana.

I think up in North Central/East/North East the winter shouldnt impact em too much. That being said they got pounded last week by close to two feet of heavy wet snow but it was warm this weekend and will be warm for the foreseeable future.

The mule deer out that way are a different story not because of winter but because of the hunting pressure.  At least antelope tags are unit specific so the take is easier to distribute. Overall based on my observations I think the antelope herds up there are doing fine. 

Mule deer is a different story, I think you'd be hard pressed to find anybody that would say the mule deer are doing well or even ok.  Unlimited resident tags, unmanaged resident and non-resident distribution and a 5 week rifle season through the rut.

Hunted there last year, saw very few antelope. The few we saw ran fast.

Just FYI,
I burned 4 antelope points on a hunt in the 700 after the last big winterkill (I want to say it was around 2011 or 12-ish...?).  Bad idea.  Hunted 4 days and only saw 4 goats.  My son and I ate both tags...
I thought there would still be plenty of 'lopes even after the winterkill.  I was wrong.

Antelope along I-15 in the southwest corner are looking pretty good population wise, drive through there regularly for work and they are pretty thick, I’m sitting on 6 pts and I think they’re gonna be burnt this year
