Colockum 2057 or 2058?
« on: April 24, 2023, 10:00:42 AM »
For Eastern Archery I am seeing two different Hunt Choice Ids. Which one is for Colockum? 2057 or 2058?

Weird, their system has been acting up. I would wait to submit haha 2057 should be the Colockum hunt, but the name is wrong and that makes me nervous.

I have friends who are trying to submit but it's telling them they need an Eastern Archery tag, but they do have that  :o :dunno:

Oh that would make sense. I am looking at the e-regulations, not sure why it pulled up 2022.

2054 is for lazy hunters and road hunters.  Probably the easiest elk unit in the state.  No much elevation change, so you don't even need to get into shape to hunt it.  And roads everywhere through that unit.

I have also heard they have really well appointed Motel rooms to rent too, not to mention the myriad of dining options.

Reading title I was thinking year someone wanted to put in partners. I think that is probably what year I’ll draw, in 2057 I’ll have about 62 points but I’ll be 94 years old. But only 95 in 2058.

On a side note, heard the natives killed half dozen bulls this winter in the clock, 400” class bulls.  Heads and back straps, WDFW knows who, but won’t do anything, or can’t.

Nothing out of the norm there. Probably a dozen or two 160+ deer too. A few survive each year though that stay away from the roads

I thought those were the years you were predicting you would draw...  2057 or 2058...

So true!!  My odds with 28 points for the clock archery tag is around 15%, sure it’s better than most, but 15% after 28 years!  Points are waaaaaaay over rated! The young people on here should not live (hunt) on the point system, just go hunt and use the point system as a bonus!

Exactly why I hunt and apply in just about every other western state. WA is just a backup plan if lightning strikes in the draws.

hey now, I’m much better than I was a few years ago when I couldn’t believe I didn’t draw with 13-15 points!! 😁. I hate to say this, but I have 28 points in “bull” and “quality” , so you are stuck with me at least another year!! Lol!

Are you sure your odds are 15%? Sounds very optimistic to me.

I had a gentleman from here who I call "the rain man" , lol, he's a numbers guy and I asked him to run me some numbers.  Now that percentage can go 1-2% either way and it's from last years numbers, number of applicants, number of tags and I think he also looks up the other competition to see their points.  It's not perfect but at least gives me an idea.

784 names in the hat!  :yike: :yike: :yike: I'd feel more positive about it if they didn't have an infinity of numbers to assign...  I would think if the pool of numbers to pull from was the total number of names in the hat, the odds might be better??  but I'm not a numbers guy.

You really only have 1 name in the hat for the draw that’s why the odds stink. But you have 784 more chances of that 1 being a lower number than any one else.

Someone with GoHunt could double check those numbers, I only bought maps this year.  WA is fairly hard to calculate odds with the way their draw works, you pretty much have to run a couple million simulations and average the results.  The more simulations you do, the more accurate your odds.  Like mentioned, those were the odds last year.  In WA, you often have to adjust for more applicants and fewer tags unfortunately.

But you should definitely go eastside archery and give it a shot….(so you’re not applying for the same thing as me  :chuckle:)

trophyhunt, not to rain on your rain man, but I think he is off by a factor of about 5. There are simply too many applicants for any single person to have a 15% chance of drawing. You'd need about 60 points to have a 15% chance

Locked

We’re not going down this road.

Now unlocked. Keep the native hunting controversy stuff out of this thread. The topic of this thread is regarding Colockum special permit questions.

Note to all. The ban hammer will drop in a hurry on this if it goes the wrong way.

yes and no, the biggest problem was it’s not the subject this thread was started for.  But yeah, if we started a thread on the truths of what has happened, it would turn into a bashing, which I see as fair, call a spade a spade. So we’d need a different topic, but not sure it would last long.

:hello: I’m just here because it’s kind of my job. :chuckle:
and I’m here to make sure you don’t fall asleep on the job!

So telling the truth about
what is going on is now considered bashing :dunno:
yes and no, the biggest problem was it’s not the subject this thread was started for.  But yeah, if we started a thread on the truths of what has happened, it would turn into a bashing, which I see as fair, call a spade a spade. So we’d need a different topic, but not sure it would last long.
Summed up quite nicely. You get a star today.

It's a thread jack. That's all it is. Don't make it out to be more than what it is. A member started a thread with some questions regarding confusion with the reg's and permits. Let's leave that be the topic of this thread. If you want to discuss tribal hunting, start a new thread. Be truthful, act like adults and keep it respectful and the discussion can run it's course.  If it goes south, it'll get locked and or nuked too.

:fire.:

" In today's instant gratification society, more and more pressure revolves around success and the measurement of one's prowess as a hunter by inches on a score chart or field photos produced on social media. Don't fall into the trap. Hunting is-and always will be- about the hunt, the adventure, the views, and time spent with close friends and family. " Ryan Hatfield
