Sasquatch Poop or one sick bear....
« on: November 18, 2007, 06:04:40 AM »
During the 2007 Elk hunt, I came across an area covered with Sasquatch poop, lot's of it. In the Lewis River Unit, about 3500' elevation, blueberry bushes everywhere.....

This particular animal loved to crap in the same place. Lots of loads in the general area, but dozens on the same mound. Upon hand and nose inspection of the most recent load, looked to be mostly berry and berry leaves. This dude had the blueberryquickstep!

I am thinking I need to bear hunt this area next bear opener!

Any advice out there, or other thoughts.....?

You can hunt there opening day,,, I will be there when the berries are ripe! :chuckle:

I would look for other (early) food sources that the bears will key on until the berries are ripe.

Definately.  I do all my hunting down there. When the berries are ripe and there are no brush and berry pickers around the bears can be thick.  Get away from the roads up in the high alpine meadows.

Did it taste like bear krap? Next time take a couple mouth fulls and see if it tastes like berries so you know what they are eating.!!!

A pinch between the cheek and gum is how you tell how fresh it was.  I loved the picture that someone posted of that Treadwell guy or whtever that *censored*s name was after he was *censored* out.

The differance between Black Bear and Grizzly Poop?

The first smells like Berries with bits of squirrel fur.

The second smells like Pepper Spray and has little bells in it.

The lewis river unit is good for bear, i killed a dandy in the there in 05, and my buddy shot one this year. Stay away from the berry pickers and the roads, and do a lot of glassing. In some areas the berry's are early, like the first part of aug. if you can find those early patches, you'll find bear.
