Also buddy sent me this when he took it apart . What would cause this ? He's not sure if it's sand or salt
Anyone that thinks a Glock is better than a 1911 paints his toenails.

Looks like some oxidation of the aluminum with some dried salt and sand mixed in. Somewhat normal. If the kicker has anodes I’d check and make sure there still in good shape. To help that from happening in the future flush with salt away every time and it gets rid of all salt that hasn’t crystallized.

Yeah, aluminum oxidation and salt.  That motor looks to have been ridden hard and put away wet.  My guess is it’s been unused for a long period of time.

Boat and motors are 2014 with 242 hrs . Buddy picked it up in November of last year . Previous owner used it a couple months prior for fall salmon ?  :dunno:

CP's right for sure, looks like it wasn't properly rinsed.  I rinse for 15 minutes with warm water and still get buildup.  If you aren't very diligent about rinsing it won't last.

You can use some of the commercial solutions to dissolve salt, but once it's built up its pretty hard to get off, especially in areas you can't reach.

The best method I’ve found for removing that crude is warm water, Comet, and a nylon brush.  Comet is abrasive so don’t use it on rubber or plastic and be careful with it on painted surfaces.
