F150 Engine light ?
« on: May 03, 2023, 07:22:08 AM »
The little check engine icon has popped up on my 2018 F150.  I can't get an appointment for a fix until next week.  Any danger in driving it as is until then?

  :dunno:

Can you take it down and get the code ran?  Most auto parts stores have the ability to run codes.  That would likely help make the decision as to whether or not you should drive it.  My guess is it is find to drive if you are not seeing, hearing or feeling any performance issues.

Probably emissions related, I would either get the code read as mentioned or you can buy a reader from Amazon for $20-30, probably same day delivery.

No it doesn't flash, steady on, no other symptoms.  Maybe its just telling me that my warranty ran out 3 days ago?

That's probably it, lol. You are ok to drive until you can get it in. Be easy on it and don't drive more than you have to. If it does start to flash you need to stop right away.

Hopefully it will help.

I'd bet it's gonna be a code for a slight emissions leak. My F150. Pops that code often as does a friends. No big deal, easy to erase and  pretty much any auto parts store will.test for free  I got a code reader from Amazon couple years ago. Cheap and handy to have.

If no performance issues it's probably a bad 02 sensor. Usually the hardest one to change. That said with the newer trucks it could literally be anything.

Do you have the truck connected to FordPass?

Super rare for that truck to have a bad oxygen sensor. Not saying it’s not possible. Just saying there are much more common issues that that in that particular truck.
