Question on GMU 388 and Western Pacific timber closure
« on: September 27, 2023, 12:26:18 PM »
I've hunted the 388 unit with my dad since I was a kid, currently 22. The many yellow gates out in the forest lands many people know about. Come to find out it has been permanently closed for good after reading the District 9 prospect. kinda hard to break the news to the old man since he really enjoyed going there and has been hunting the area for about 20+ years. Any reason why this decision was made and will this closure actually be for good?

Thanks,

J.M

THere is a thread on here discussing it.  Not sure where.

But....from what I understand is, they intended to close it when they bought it over a decade ago, but local pressure talked them into allowing access supposedly for a ten year plan.   Well, the ten years is up.    It will probably be subdivided soon and covered in homes.

I see now thank you for the info. It's a bummer a lot of beautiful forest land just an amazing spot to go hunt. Along with plenty of stories of rich hunting in those woods back in the day. Now I'll have to go out and start doing some scouting and homework on fresh land that allows feel free to hunt in the 388.
