Let’s look back on a little history. Anyone remember the Lake Washington Sockeye fishery? Hugely popular back in the day. The Cedar River Sockeye enhancement started due to the decimation of Salmon at the Ballard locks, in an effort to bolster the Sockeye population, and keep that fishery alive. What happened is typical in nature; a predator / prey relationship. An increase in prey resulted in a corresponding increase in predators. I understand the bass fishery is popular, as is the cutthroat fishery, but they both pale in comparison to the Sockeye fishery. This is an attempt to control a non-native predator to increase a native Sockeye. Is it wrong? Is it a waste of time (due to the other predators that exist in the lake)? Only time will tell, but understand that the state tax revenue, from one Sockey fishery opening on Lake Washington, most likely far exceeds the others.
Why don’t they just have a tournament, catch a ton of fish and load them in a trailer and relocate them to another lake?
