I’ve had one or two of these this year. In Birding, the term means first ever seen. In my case I like to use it as first ever filmed.
I missed a really good shot on him as handling the big camera is kind of cumbersome, but he did pause long enough for me to get this overly cropped shot.

Very nice. I downloaded the Merlin app a while ago and use it a lot. Verify the different birds we hear around the property and now recognize many more by their songs. Ravens with their different noises throws it off once in a while.

That app has gotten better and better. I use it once in awhile while I am sitting at home. I’ve learned a lot from it. I didn’t have it with me on this trip, but we used it the other day to identify a new sound at our house. A chipping sparrow. I didn’t get a good photo of the bird or I’d get it posted here. I did get to see it. I never knew there were so many sparrows.
