Green River 485 weapon of choice?
« on: May 11, 2023, 09:43:52 AM »
Whether it's the Quality tag or Antlerless tag in Green River, it looks like all 3 archery, muzzy and rifle are all hunting at the same time in Nov.
I have hunted Archery 90% of the time over the last 30 years. Is it silly to blow all my points on a Green River tag and head in there with a bow?

Welcome to the forum.  :hello:
It's best to get to know people in here for awhile before asking about hunting units and tag choices. The same way you wouldn't give gps coordinates to your favourite spot to a guy in 711, most people on here arent going to publicly invite more competition for a tag they want to draw if they aren't familiar with the person.

November 4-10 surely could be a tough time to hunt elk with a bow. But if you really want to hunt the Green River GMU, I'd say do it anyway.

Appreciate the feedback MeepDog but I have been a member on this forum for about 10 years, I just had to create a new account due some login issues I couldn't seem to get around. My patience is weaker than my desire to hang on to an account that proves I have been engaged in many conversations on here. That being said, my question was very basic, not looking for any special intel regarding the unit. I have done work in that unit off and on for many years and have all the intel I need in that department.
Regardless of what weapon I choose, my odds are exactly the same to get drawn for that tag and we'll all be in there together. So withholding information/opinions because you don't "know" me is completely your choice, but isn't really protecting anything. I just enjoy archery and take pride in bringing down an elk with a bow, just curious if folks thought it was foolish to go in packing a bow when most folks are gonna be shooting something that flies faster and farther.

There's lots of areas open when archery and other methods are opened. Limited tags make that an even slimmer conflict.

It’s a cool place to see, you can continue to hunt for bear and cougars if you tag an elk. There are fields the elk frequent but those with rifles might get’em first and not even know you are there. I’d try to locate where they will escape too or find places away from the elk fields. A big negative for me about the watershed tag, no camping there. For that reason alone, I put in else where for elk.
“In common with”..... not so much!!

Never been there but questioned the same thing in value of carrying muzzleloader when rifle guys were in there so decided against the quality tag catagory due to such reason.
Maturity is when you have the power to destroy someone who did you wrong but instead you breathe, walk away, and let life take care of them.

I imagine it would be tougher, but like it was said above, you can sit the escape routes and it may help you. I have a muzzy tag and if I get drawn that might be my plan. I only have 10 points so probably don’t have to worry to much. Lol.
