Drew Akili muzzy cow tag
« on: June 15, 2023, 09:46:03 AM »
Alkili muzzy cow tag. Sept 23 to Oct 7. I put in for this tag figuring it would give me a reason to learn some new country. Now that I have drawn it my scouting time is being taken up on my dad's quality elk tag he drew. Any pointers on which direction to start would be greatly appreciated.

Pretty straight forward. Hunt is dictated by the firing range and what units they open daily. Make sure you understand their rules. It’s a good hunt if you can get open range units

Me and my brother hunted that unit for bulls a few years back. They kept closing down the areas to hunt. Could only hunt the 2 south east units . No elk !! You’ll have to go to a meeting before you can access the units. Watch a film and that’s that. Do before the hunt

I’ve got a muzzy bull tag.  Looking forward to it!   I mean, I don’t like elk hunting, but at least it’s in mule deer country 🤣

I hunted the same tag last year and it was my first year in there. I didn't have to watch a video or go to a meeting, but ensure you take a solid day to go and get your back ground check out of the way as well as getting your weapon registered with the base.

I didn't spend enough time there last year, we hunted hard for 6 days and finally got into elk the last 1.5 days. Go early in the season if possible. It was ridiculously hot last season and there isn't much reprieve in that unit. Takes forever to get anywhere in the unit and you can't over night camp in the unit either. Basically one point of entry in and out of the unit. Make sure to get there as early as possible so your in your spots before sun up. Elk are found all over the unit, just a matter of where they've been pushed and what the base gives you access to on a specific day. Hopefully when you get there they aren't all pushed into the central impact area (no no zone). You can't even retrieve a downed animal in this area.

Good luck.

Might be better if you take a razor or side by side to get around too if it’s allowed. I’ve heard the roads can be horrible on a reg vehicle. Enjoy the hunt!

That’s not allowed.

Make sure you know the rules. Watched a guy get kicked out because he went through the gate to early, cops/security chased him down and pulled his access

https://jblm.armymwr.com/application/files/5915/4592/7794/Rec_Card_FAQ.pdf

Rec cards are good for one year April 1 through March 31.

You need to check in and check out each day. Check-in can take 30 minutes or more depending on how busy they are. You can select up to three training areas that you wish to visit that day.

Every firearm you take on must be registered with the YTC police first. Firearms must be cased while in a vehicle and ammunition kept separately. Concealed carry is not allowed.

Training areas that are open to the public are updated daily, usually in the late afternoon. You can call 509-577-3600 to get a recording of open training areas for the next day.

Understand that if your vehicle breaks down you're on your own. You would be responsible for finding someone to tow it off the base.

Know and follow all the rules or you may lose your access.

It can be a wonderful experience. Best wishes.

You can call and change areas as long as they are open

Is an enhanced id needed or is a regular driver's license ok?

Regular driver's license is fine.
You will need to check in each time at the guard shack with the following information. Driver's License, Proof of Insurance, Registration, and Rec Card.
Head to the gym to get your rec card and go through the rules binder. They will give you a map and your rec card.  Drive back to the guard shack with your new rec card, select your three units, and head down range towards you selection training areas.
