Your Maximum Range Bow
« on: November 18, 2007, 02:05:10 PM »
Again same as rifle.  In this instance animal is totally unaware or alerted.  For me my range would only apply to Elk and Deer.  Bear with the hair factor would be much less for me due to not exactly being able to see where I want my arrow to strike.

I see that the poll offers the options over 60 yards. I'd certainly like to take some notes from people that are taking those shots on a stick bow.

I would hope they are not.

I hope they are not taking those shots either. I saw an episode of spirit of the wild with Ted Nugent a few days ago where he took a 73 yard shot on a Texas White Tail and had a hell of a time tracking it. Damn arrogant fool... no wonder I can't stand his show.

For me it is 40, but I sure like them in the 15-30 range.

73 yards is too far.  I can't stand Teds show either...too much 'magnificant beast...blah blah.'  That guys a tool.

I talked to a guy that says he'll shoot at 100 yds.  When I asked about them jumping the arrow he got quiet and answered 'that can be a problem'
I bet it's a problem- particularly for the animal...dip$hit.

All I will say is I follow the same advice that G. Fred Asbell gives in his book.

I can hit targets all day at 80 yards but won't draw on an animal over 40, and would rather have it under 30.

ditto!! I haven't taken an animal over 20 yards except for my bull this year at 33yds. Thats they farthest I have shot but everything was perfect so I had no doubt I couldn't do it!

to me.  the size of the animal also makes a difference.  when going for a lope, i need to be really close.  the size of the vitals is somewhat of consideration, maybe it makes no difference to you, but i think about it.
Tell me how many pieces of flair you want me to wear.

This year I harvested with my bow for the first time.  It's definitely more challenging.
