Looking for a hunting partner - archery
« on: July 14, 2023, 08:17:05 AM »
Planning to do some weekend/long weekend hunts this September and seeing if anyone wants to tag along. Deer and/or elk. This is my first season in Washington, so there’s going to be some trial and error. I’ve scouted a few places and plan to hunt some of them, but will also be exploring some public land that is new to me.

I’m generally a weekend hunter, since my weekdays are full with work and family. My hunts usually involve a pretty good bit of hiking. I don’t mind putting in some serious miles, so I usually pick places that are inaccessible to vehicles/bikes, and walk in early to get away from the crowds.

I’m in Bothell. I plan to hunt western WA for blacktail. Not sure yet where I’ll go for elk. PM me if you want to meet up for a beer and talk about it!

If you don't get much response here go find your local archery club or bow shop and ask around.  Unless they are newer and learning the area like you many will be reserved to take you out or show any "secret" spots.  Many certainly don't mind helping people get started with gear tips and general areas but beyond that typically hold stuff close to the vest.

Get out and scout now whenever time allows and shoot your bot A LOT wearing your hunting gear (pack, bino harness, etc.).  Game cams are helpful early season especially learning new area and animal patterns.  Don't be surprised if you aren't the only one out there scouting or hunting though as archery is still quite popular and you always have plenty of hikers or bird hunters in September as well.  Sounds like you may do well getting away from the crowds but don't overlook areas where sign/feed is and deer live.  Early season will likely be brushy and late can be fun just do to better visibility once leaves have dropped.  West side most my shots have been in the 35-45yd range.

I prefer to archery deer hunt solo but elk is a different story just due to location/effort and size of the animals.  Not looking for a partner but good luck in your search.

Sure thing. Not interested in anyone’s spots. Just more fun to do stuff with other people. I think I’ve found a few folks, but PM me if you’re in the bothell area and want to grab a beer and talk hunting.
