Thoughts on Ford Ranger 4x2 2.3L

I am looking at acquiring a 2008 Ford Ranger. Will probably be my daily driver. 85,000 miles. I'd be the 2nd owner. Its a very clean pickup and was well cared for. Any idea what the 2.3L and the auto tranny would pull? I'm sure not much. I don't want to hurt the drive train. Curious on opinions pulling a flat bed utility trailer, with a pair of ATVs on it. I have other options for pulling, looking for stories on what others have done with similar drivetrain. From what I can find the motor and tranny are pretty dependable? Thanks in advance...

My 2007 4X2 4.0L 5 speed manual, has been reliable and is my daily driver. It handles my 5X10 utility trailer OK, but it's hard on my clutch on big hills with my little SXS.

My son bought a 98 with a 5 speed. We gutted the whole interior and replaced it, looks like new now. Then tore the engine apart and replaced the timing belt, water pump thermostat and plugs and wires and valve cover gasket.pretty straightforward except the dual spark plug. The two back ones on the drivers side were way easier once the valve cover was off.I think it would have been harder if it wasn’t off.Nice little truck, has decent power. Run water over the windows with a hose and check for leaks, they are notorious for leaking.we swapped the rear slider for a one piece since his leaked through the sliding door part.

i think the MAX that thing is rated for is barely over 2k lbs....most of them are like 1500 lbs

Interweb says they are rated 1420 - 2240 lbs depending on the model and axle ratio.

Copy that!! It has the 4:10 gears. Was reading the original window sticker that was in the glove box. Interesting to read. I took it to Kellogg yesterday, and it was pretty comfortable. I missed having cruise control, but other than that, no complaints!
