I just checked and, no berries here.  Not even green ones, just blooms.  At least another week.

Haven't ventured out to my other areas yet.

We're referring to the native trailing variety, which are smaller but have unsurpassed flavor. These would be the only ones ripening now. Feral/Himalayan variety ripen more Augustish.

Decent video describing the differences between the two main varieties of blackberries.

Not sure of the variety, but we have the super tiny blackberries that grow directly on the ground. About 1/3 of ours are ripe now. The others are still red. So delicious, but hours of picking for 1-2 pies.

I've never said this before, like ever, but I'm jealous of you Westside guys and your access to Blackberries :chuckle:

We were driving by a cutbank in the Sequim Area, govt land, maybe 30' tall and 200 yds long, my wife said, "Is that ALL blackberries?!?!" I said, "Yup!"

Cut the sugar from the (reduced sugar) pectin box recipe to slightly over half, and it makes amazing jam! Just boil it down, no labor needed! (Full sugar pectin won't jell if you reduce the sugar.)

I use Honey instead of sugar and it's awesome.

Come get some plants, I spent four hours spraying the dam things this morning and I’m still not done.🤬

But we did put in some thornless ones in this spring.🤣

Those are native ones.👍

Hopefully it doesn't end up like last year. Plants got a great start, than shriveled on the vine with the heat and lack of rain.

This is all that's left of pie #1. Still have enough berries for one or two more. Such intense flavor from those berries. This one actually had about 1/3 'black cap' raspberries.

I need to remember to cook longer than what a lot of recipes call for to make sure the thickener sets up.
