Westport pier 20
« on: July 23, 2023, 03:57:09 PM »
Just because my cousin is going to be in Westport this weekend, I'm thinking about saying hello!
.
I have Wednesday off, but she's not showing up until after 2:00pm..
.
I'm thinking about getting there early (well, early-ish..) and crabbing from before low tide, and the incoming tide until I limit.
Or, until 7:30pm +/-
.
Not up for the jetty, going to crab off a dock/pier..
.
20 seems to be "the" place according to google, but I've never been there.
.
Anybody have any suggestions for other piers?
.
Or want to stop by on Wednesday?
.
I'll be there all day probably.
.
At least until high tide..

If you are limiting off of any dock, pier or jetty, you are doing it better than me!
20 is the place, generally, unless you want to run down to Tokeland. Same drill there, but Westport has more area's to choose from on 'Fisherman's Walk', which is 20 and beyond.
Took two guys out for 4 hours with a few different set ups and got two, yes, two, 'keepers'.
While it can be 'pretty good' at times, don't get your hopes up too high, or you may have a fall a comin'.
You will get many crabs, just not male, and if male, not legal size, or soft. Hit and miss.

I usually go to Tokeland, and do well...
That's why I don't go to Westport.
I keep hearing about how it sucks..

The most 'keepers' I have gotten off of Fishermen's Walk in Westport was four in one day. Caught a whole lot of female and undersized to get those. I have not seen anyone do any better there. Best of luck!

Is pier 20 where you go to cast for crabs?  Casting for crab is pretty fun, taken a few legals that way, but I did get skunked a while ago and got snagged and lost my pot.

Y'all must be doing something different, I can rarely go 4 hours without a limit, usually 4-6 people we are in and out in less then 3 hours. Longest it ever took for limits was 8 hours on a weird tide. Crab hawks and drumsticks knock em dead every time, if it's slow crab jelly from smelly jelly poked up under the chicken skin
