August Bear Hunting?
« on: July 27, 2023, 12:17:37 AM »
Hi All,

Wanted to know if anyone has any pointers for locating bears in August? I’ve taken 2 bears in the last three years, both of which have been in September in the high country. Given that this year I will not have any time to hunt besides early August, Im trying to narrow down my spots to check.

I’ve never had much luck finding bears in August and online all clearcuts seem to look the same… I plan on hunting the Sultan/Snoqualmie areas. Not looking for any secret spots but are there any tips anyone could share on locating bears in the early fall season? Looking forward to seeing everyones success this year.

Happy hunting

This will be my first year bear hunting but have already got lots of pictures of them on game cameras near water(within 50 feet) in thick blackberry/alder patches. Somewhere where there is lots of shade. Good luck

I would continue in the high country. Plenty of bears and you have had experience up high. Find water and move around on food sources. They are there. It is gonna start getting hot as season progresses so go up in the high country and sit on the glass. Hopefully find a nice shady spot to sit. And possible fire dangers this year which you don't have to worry about in federal lands. Getting hungry for huckleberry muffins.

Maturity is when you have the power to destroy someone who did you wrong but instead you breathe, walk away, and let life take care of them.

Hot,hot,hot.
Really bad here on the Eastside.
Then they will be screaming about fire danger.

All that aside.
Early mourning, late evening glassing, and looking at water sources mid-day.
That's always my plan.
All animals will be not too far from water,or food sources.

Find berries.  Lots of bears around your area from the river to the high country.  Find the food and you'll find the bears.

It hasn’t been to hot in souther wa. But it doesn’t matter bears still eat during the day no matter how hot it is. My favorite day to hunt is a 100 degree day with no wind. For some reason we seem to see them the most on hot calm days.
