Ive spoken with the f&g twice now voicing my opinion on how bad last year was, it didnt sound to me like they were going to do that again. Their reasoning for it was to keep people out of long lines due to "covid". I agree with most opinions above, front the $ and or move the deadline way up. Finding out just before or during the early seasons doesnt give people any time to plan.

Perhaps, it will be different than years prior.  Here is a response I received yesterday from fish and game.  I wouldn’t be surprised if the surrendered tags this season are not reallocated.

Hello,

Thank you for contacting the Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife.

There will be an announcement in August regarding what we are doing with the leftover multiseason tags.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact us at 360.902.2464.

There is no way wdfw will not sell those tags. That's their number 1 thing they are excellent at, taking our money.

For the wdfw to intentionally miss out on the revenue generation would be an unwise business and unusual decision

Interestingly enough, this was their response to a somewhat unrelated question.  I can assure you, I was not inquiring about the redistribution of the multiseasons tags.

I though all leftover multi season tags went on sale Aug 1st on a first come first serve basis.  Is that not the way it is anymore

Nope not anymore as of last year. WDFW got on the it’s not fair train just like the rest of the world. Not everyone can skip work to be in line. Life’s not fair. Now they redraw and you give them way too long to decide if they want it or not and end up not even selling them all because they’re approaching people with them when there’s only two weeks of late archery deer  left by the time it comes around to them. Stupid process. Like everyone has says you should have to pay upfront and that would weed out most people. And the redraw you should only have two or three days to make up your mind. All permits  should be re-distributed before September 1

I agree with that. Wastes a lot of people's time.

Just make tags non returnable with a financial obligation if selected, Stop returning points, and in a few years this won’t be an annual gripe.

Based off years past emails, this is how I take the process and what will happen this year...

In the past if you were a person that bought the app and applied for the MS tag during the initial draw and were unsuccessful you got first dibs at the leftover MS tags around Mid August.  Once that pool of people was done buying and or not buying during their allotted window, they opened up the remaining MS tags to everyone for a time period.  Once they time period ended, and they still had leftover tags, they opened up another time period to purchase and on and on until the tags were sold or all the seasons were done.  If they are not changing the system this year, then anyone who applied for and did NOT get drawn in the initial MS draw will have a chance to buy a MS tag at some point during the month of August on a first come first serve basis.

As I have read and continue to see posted, there will be no change in the way this is done this year as it was done in the past.

I sent an email asking how multi-season leftovers would go this year...response this am pasted here:

Thank you for contacting the Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife.

We will be conducting a Second Draw for individuals who have purchased their Multi season Deer or Elk applications but were not selected the first round of the drawing. We do not have a specific date set, as the deadline to purchase your Multi season tags for those who were drawn the first round is not until July 31st. Once the deadline has passed, and we have the official number of remaining tags, we will email all customers who qualify with instructions on how to purchase.

Thanks for posting their response.   Sounds like the same scenario and process as I remembered.

For those of you who did buy a leftover MS tag last year... Did you turn your tag into a license dealer and then purchase the MS tag from them? Or did you call wdfw and deal with them over the phone? Thought I remember seeing someone last year had to wait 14 days for wdfw to mail them the new tag.

Every time I have gotten one after august 1st. I have gone to the local dealer purchased it and not turned in my old tag. Basically I’m left with two deer tags. I don’t use the second one but I find it funny.
