Atv rollover results in 4 young deaths Liberty
« on: July 30, 2023, 01:29:26 PM »
Yesterday, four young people died in a rollover accident involving a side-by-side all-terrain-vehicle near the town of Liberty.

At almost 4 pm on Saturday July 29, deputies and fire units responded to a 911 report that a Polaris Razor side-by-side ATV rolled and burst into flame while driving on a dirt road in the Wenatchee-Okanogan National Forest, near Liberty Rd west of the town of Liberty. Local fire and medic units arrived within minutes to start treating survivors and prevent the gas-fueled fire from spreading. No other vehicles were involved and no-one outside the Razor was injured.

The owner and driver of the ATV was 24-year-old Conner Jenkins of Orting. Also in the vehicle were Conner’s friend, 23-year-old Benjamin Gomez Santana of Covington and a couple they met that day, 26-year-old Devon Anonson of Kent and 24-year-old Halle Cole of Maple Valley. Gomez Santana and Cole died at the scene of the accident. Helicopters transported Jenkins and Anonson to Harborview hospital’s burn center in critical condition, but neither young man survived the night.

Sheriff Myers, members of his office, and all Kittitas County first responders grieve the incalculable loss suffered by these four families.

The open field where the accident occurred is a popular recreational spot for campers and ATV’s. The cause of the accident and fire are under investigation.

That's just a horrible tragedy.

I saw first responders heading to that and I knew it couldn’t be good with how fast they were going. It’s just horrible. We were over there that morning

Just a bunch of kids, so sad. I'm curious as to how the side by side burst into flames and that seems unusual.

Very sad reminder of how fragile life can be.  Probably laughing and having a good time one minute and then this. Very sad

Don’t know what happened but I’m surprised there aren’t more fatality or serious injury accidents in those things. Feel bad for the families of those youngsters.

Very sad indeed.  Also look up Polaris RZR's and catching on fire.  It is actually very common.

We have rode/camped there many times.  It has a "track" to buzz around and speed could result in rolling for sure.  Also in back in trees is a very steep large hill climb.  Its not dangerous or terrible like some extrem hills but loose n steep.  If you were to stop and back up it could end very badly possibly.  Yes RZR are horrible in regards to fires.  I bought 1 and it attempted to burn in my shop at 3 months old.  Safety design in build quality is lacking on many polaris utvs.    So sad to hear these things.  Conconully recent bad accident few weeks ago while we were up there as well.  Speed is mostly cause of serious accidents.  But I will tell ya even being careful and such some climbs/trails etc can end bad.  Rolling down/off big inclines is always a worry.  Overall these sxs are very safe when operated slower and sober.  Much more so then atv or cycles.
MAGA!  Again..

Exactly, lots of these accidents involve alcohol unfortunately.  Not saying on this one, but many are, bad combination with youth, alcohol and sxs. Just brutal though, very sad all around, regardless if it involved alcohol.
