Ned Rigs.... two new species added...
« on: August 14, 2023, 02:02:24 PM »
I was turned onto the TRD NedRigs a couple years ago by Searun and they have been great producers for Small and Large Mouth of all sizes.

I have also picked up incidental catches of:
Rainbow
Yellow Perch
BlueGill
Channel Cats

This week at Neah Bay I added Black Rockfish and Coho to the list!

Add walleye and crappie on there for me too!  :chuckle:  The ned is my brothers last ditch effort when theres no bite and its surprising the spread of species you can get with it.

Those NB coho can get so thick and aggresive that at times it can be very difficult to get 9" curly tails down for lings.Seen them hide under the boat and nail anything before it made it 10' down.

Don't let your bare hooks dangle over the side.

So you are saying it was not my superior skills or perseverance that prevailed??

(Yeah-they seem to attack nearly anything including the bass popper i threw at them....)

Still fun and the nedrig is outstanding regardless!

Typically it's a rubber worm shaped bait.
In this case it's a brand name.

You should be able to add humpy to the list without much struggle.

You can see the one I used in the photo.

They have a mushroom shaped head and sit straight up and down when they settle to the bottom.

The kicker is that that is not what the Ned Rig was developed for.  The Ned in "Ned" Rig used the mushroom head jigs for a horizontal presentation of soft plastics in typically open water.   It was about the balance of the lure for subtle manipulations during a retrieve  Gopher Tackle has a bunch of different mushroom head jigs.
May that for which I prepare never come to pass.

Personally added a Channel Catfish and a Sucker to my Ned Rig catch assortment today.  That is a Pink in the picture.  They did really well on those suspended Black Rockfish.

Wacky rigging Ned's works great for bass.
I also run them weightless Texas rigged for smallmouth.
They can't help but eat it.
