MA 9/10 ocean coho
« on: August 10, 2023, 10:37:17 AM »
I've had a few in the last 10 days or so in the 5 - 5.5 lb range that could have been ocean fish.  But this one leaves no doubt, just a hare over 7 lbs from this morning.  Maybe a good sign for things to come.

In other news, the pinks are super thick.

I got these a few days ago.  I'm not sure if the buck is an ocean fish or not.  Maybe  :dunno:

Maybe they both are.

Nice fish! I've found that in pink years ocean coho often come in with the big schools. I usually don't really try until later in August but good to see that there are fish showing! Hopefully it keeps up!

The fresh from ocean coho have lice on them, I don't think the residence pick those up in Puget Sound.

Been catching the larger grades since end of July. Went to swiftsure on the 5th and got the real ocean coho. 9lb hatcheries common and thick. We had about 30 in netted in 2 hours after putting 6 clipped in the boat in minutes. Fought through wild and pinks rest of the day. Pinks were big. Probably netted over 75 fish in 4-5 hours on 2 downriggers. Was incredibly busy. Was also for Salmon for Soldiers so, my guys got a ton of action.
