Teanaway Late Quality Bow Tag
« on: June 15, 2023, 06:43:06 AM »
Well my guess is as good as yours, but I managed to pull a special tag again for 23’.
Archery tags come a bit easier I suppose.
I’m hunting this tag hard for 5 days right after Thanksgiving dinner. Any advice would be much appreciated, but I can respect your decision if you remain silent. Either way best of luck to all tag holders out there, whether they be special tags or regular OTC. Seasons are coming up soon enough!

Maybe someone hasn’t seen this one yet that can help point me in the right direction.
Just curious if anyone knows about late November where the more mature bucks are gonna be? I’m assuming up some does tail ends but should I try to get private access down low or hunt the public stuff a bit higher trying to ambush some mature bucks coming into the pasture in the evening? I’m mostly a whitetail hunter near Spokane so if you need some tips for these fidgety whiteys I might be able to trade some tips.

I drew that archery tag as 2nd choice in 2017.
Even though I knew the area well, from Blewett Pass all the way down & around to West Fork Teanaway road, Toughest hunt I've ever been on in 50+ years of hunting.
The main RUT was over, few bucks were trailing does in post rut. And those bucks were down in private lands, farm fields off main Teanaway road.
Bucks I encountered on public land in the forests were all single, not with does.
I had ideal conditions with cold temps, fresh snow 4x during my continuous 9-day hunt, camped with canvas wall tent and wood stove.

Weather will be the determining factor on buck's locations. Always hope for snow, cold.
Had to deal with wolves in proximity during my hunt. Spotted 3 wolves at distance on 2 days. One a big black one!
Located Deer disappeared quick when wolves showed up.
Add to that the cougar tracks in fresh snow that I came across in 3 different basins in 4 days.

Vowed to never apply this late permit tag again, at least for archery.
Rifle special tag hunt is earlier, smack during the muley rut. 2 friends filled their permits in different years but both bucks under 160" scorewise.

a couple vids here on my hunt, search Teanaway on my main page:

Sounds like a pretty tough hunt. Not sure what the deal is, decent amount of bucks around during the earlier seasons. Harvest reports show 1 buck killed in the last 4 years  :yike: good luck to you sir!

Thank you and I’ll need it!  :)   I’m not expecting to see a ton of shooters but there can be some good deer migrating through, late rut or second rut could be on, snow will help. To me it’s more of an adventure hunt because I’m typically sitting in a tree stand for whitetail that season so going after Muleys will make it interesting. A few folks on here have DM me with great advice and I want to thank you all. Very cool community.
