Downriggger mount cutting board?
« on: August 20, 2023, 08:15:46 PM »
I have two downrigger mounts but frequently only use one. Would love to have a cutting board that would attach to the second mount. Has anyone ever built or seen anything like this? I don’t have a rod holder in that area for that type of cutting board mount and haven’t turned up any products like this searching yet.

Should be easy to build. What kind of downriggers you run? If you can get a base and modify it to put a piece of uhmw on that would be easy enough, also depends on how big you want it,if you’d need to support it better

Following.

I have an aluminum boat with brocraft rodholders so those rod holder mount cutting board solutions don't really work. Haven't found a good clamp product that would work on the gunwales either. But I do have Penn downrigger bases, haven't thought about using them. Good idea Brushcrawler.

Or you can do a mount like this my brother made for his boat to clean walleye. Drops into a pole holder mount, used a solid piece of wood with carpet that lays on it so the fish doesn’t slide. Just lift it and it comes out.

Could screw a scotty base into the DR plate and use it for all the scotty accessories.

I have a small one with a Scotty rod mount, seems easier and more mounting locations than to a downrigger.  I thought about making a big one that spans the distance between two rodholders on the transom.

Thanks guys, some good ideas here. It’s a Cannon swivel mount on a rail with no rod holders nearby. I think if I can find an old downrigger and build a board like Born2late’s picture on the base it would be about right. I’m kind of surprised nobody makes something like this commercially to swap on and off with the downrigger.
