Othello Fair Grand Champion
« on: September 18, 2023, 10:58:45 AM »
The kids had a wonderful time at the Othello Fair. Was great to see barns full of livestock. The week started out with a first for my kids. My daughter came in last in her class in market. This has never happened to either kid. I was told, for better success in market, she needed a "club" steer. We just picked one from the family herd as my daughter took pride in raising and showing a steer from her families herd. Not to be out done, my son then followed up by also placing last in his market lamb class... :chuckle: Good Grief!!! A clean sweep... YIKES! My son's lamb was a bit over finished, and the judge placed him accordingly. These placings were just how it was, and not at the fault of the kids, as they are pretty on top of what and how much they are feeding. On to Fitting & Showing. My daughter and her steer showed as good as they could. The Steer set up, stood still, walked with ease, and I truly felt she was going to get a call back. Not to be. This was the last time my little girl would enter the show ring as an exhibitor. She had a great run over the years. 2, Grant County Lamb Fit & Show Grand Championships, 1, Grant County lamb Market Grand Championship, 1, Grant County lamb Prospect Grand Championship, 1, Grant County lamb Prospect Reserve Grand Championship, 1 Othello Fair lamb Fitting & Showing Grand Championship, 1 Grant County Steer Fitting and Showing Grand Championship, 1 Grant County Round Robin Championship. To many callbacks to list. So proud of my little girl. I feel if there was a Showman Hall of Fame, she would be inducted.

On to my son's attempt at redemption after a rough market class. He was cool and confident that morning. He is a showman who has a lot to live up to having a big sister like he does. Rest assured, He cast's his own shadow of quality showmanship backed by multiple championships of his own. My son showed very well, ultimately showing and setting up each lamb in a large class of exhibitors. The Judge rotated each exhibitor through each lamb, taking at least 30 minutes. In the end, my son won his class, and moved on to the FFA Fit & Show final. Many familiar faces, and very tough competition in final. When it was time to award the champion, the judge walked to my son and shook his hand. My son is the 2023 FFA 1 Othello Fair Fitting and Showing Grand Champion. He had a great time showing in the Round Robin, but did not win. A Great fair year for sure for my kiddos.

Congratulations to your son on his win, again not an easy feat.👍

Also your daughter is a winner in life taking on the challenge of showing an animal.👍

That is awesome! Congrats to your kids! It's so nice to see positive stories nowadays, thank you for taking the time to let us know how they did. They should both be very proud of their accomplishments!

Good write up.

I think it's cool that she showed a steer from the family Herd.

Congrats! My daughters did well at our 2 local fairs this year with their market goats, breeding stock, and fitting and showing.
