Well guys and gals I havent posted in a while but I have been keeping an eye on ya. We leave tomorrow for our 2nd. annual sturgeon trip down south and I think this trip will be more productive and successful. Not that the last one wasn't, we went 5 for 7 if I remember correctly, two unders, 3 keepers, and 2 that got away, so not to bad. Hoping for one of those big overs (8, 9, 10 footer would be nice). We should be back monday sometime, so I should have pics and reports to ya by tuesday or wednesday.
It it was a blast. Saturday we fished upriver at the power lines which was not so successfull with only one under landed. We stayed anchored up next to a guy and his family that we know and between the CL's, BS, and cherrys flying it was an hilarious and very fun day. They're boat went 4 for 4 all under size. At the end of the day we spoke with a guy that was anchored in the same spot for the whole day and he went 8 for 9 all unders, and a 10 footer the day before, all just above the power lines.
Sunday we were back to our normal routine back down into Warrenton. Fished all day, except early morning and went 0 for 1.
Monday we decided to hit it nice and early and catch the outgoing tide right. So we were up at 5 and fishing by 6. We fished just out of the marina on the up river side inside the green cans. We had 1 under within the first 30 minutes and another within the next 20. Then after watching 30 or 40 sturgeon jump and or surface in or close the the channel edge we decided to move in to the edge of the channel. I have never seen anything like it, there was sturgeon jumping everywhere, and me being the only one on the boat who had not landed or hooked up yet thought this is my chance, and sure as heck within 5 minutes of setting the pick I was hooked up and it was my turn. I guess I saved the best for last. Had a blast, got the itch and will be in the river chasing them again but a little closer to home today.

So what is the report? Hope you had a good time.
MuleySniper, UncleBuck and I were down there on Friday for one day. We got one nice keeper at 52", one under, and 3 overs that were about 8'6-9'6. We had a blast. I am still sore.

The fishing should be great this weekend...... im assuming that fish is oversize, unless you are 4 ft tall, and im not thinking you are, some advice- dont take them out of the water as we all know that is ILLEGAL, second dont hold them up by their gills..... if that is a keeper then my bad, but I have seen a fish or two and that is not a 60 in sturg......

Sorry Hoyt but the tape doesn't lie, it was 68 ish. And as far as taking it out of the water I do know that and in the heat of the moment and 4 guys saying keeper not keeper it ended up in the boat. And as far as me lifting it bye the gills that is my own dumb ignorance.

it happens, well except for the gill part, everyone has been there, I can look at them and usually be within 1/2 in on the length so that fish would have stayed in the water, and by law you are supposed to keep them in to measure, no one does this... period.... my main point is if it was me in that pic and not you, *censored* would have hit the fan.... I find that very funny and sad at the same time....

I hear ya, but what about all those guide boats we seen netting fish, bringing them aboard and then seeing them released. You think being that it is they're lively-hood they would be a little less careless. Or is the game dept. a little careless about it?

netting sturg is crazy, but i would guess that like myself they can tell if it is a keeper or not, thus no reason to measure..... the only ones that would / should stay in the water are the ones that are very close on the bottom end or the ones that are pushing it, say the 61-63 in range..... yours being 68 would not be netted im sure... either way my point is still the same, I get 2 pages of *censored* for a legal fish, landed legally, and you post a pic that is wrong on a few levels and no one bats an eye..

Its all good Hoyt, im still somewhat new to the game, but you sound like you know what your talking about. Im sure you get so much crap because you know so much and everyone has high expectations of you. Knock em dead this weekend. I am headed out to the local river in about an hour.

netting a gator of any size is not needed. Bring them to the boat. put a finger or hand in the mouth the other around the tail and lift. They just get tangled in the nets and will only harm them self more.

Hoyt,
Where have you been fishing? do you run trips @ the Bonnie erea or are you down by Camus. Post a pic of yer boat I might know you if I see the boat. Not to many Koffler boats out. The only other one I know is Keith's white 20' boat.
I run a 21' Willie Raptor forward helm. Marron with ghost flames and a 200 Sport Jet.
I'd post a pic but just havn't figured it all out yet.

Small when compared to the boats some of these guides run. But they won't get into the places in the summer like the smaller boats can.
Good to see ya on this forum!!
