I bought a new used browning BAR 300win mag from an old guy. I love shooting it. it has a muzzle brake on it. first year I took to B.C. for a moose hunt, the guide looked at it and asked me "can the guide buster be removed?" as the shooter, i never noticed the noise and side blast, but he wouldn't stand anywhere but directly behind me

I get instant headaches if I'm in the blast cone of those things. My brain's so small in my big head so I can't take the extra vibrations  :chuckle:

i have a 338 win mag and am debating putting a brake on it.  it has the hard recoil pad on it so i think i'll try a limbsaver first.  i was curious if anyone has magna-ported their rifle?  is the sound from a magna port just as bad as a brake?

Hi, im new 2 this posting thing, but I wuz just reading on the possibilities, & I could not disagree more with the guy who has a 300 WSM & wuz wanting 2 know if he should get it braked!! I have a Ruger M77 300 WSM, with a Leoupold 4x12 Gold Ring. It's my favorite rifle. It's a tack driver!!! I have killed anything out 2 300-350 yds. I would not recomennd it. I do have a 300 WM. It definetly needs a Brake, I would not like 2 shoot it without a Brake. Just some food 4 thoughts.  Any comments back would B cool!!!

Brakes are good, just loud. Wear ear plugs and you'll be a happy camper.

my hearing has been severely damaged by a muzzle brake on a 7 mm.  also chainsaws and tractors.  in the 50s and 60s hearing protection was not used much.  gave the 7 to a grandson and got a 257 and muzzy.  mike w

I like the old Vais acorn shaped muzzle brakes.  They work awesome.  My brother's custom 338 WM that I built him kicks less than an 06 with the brake on, and a good Decelerator pad.

Had my first experience with a muzzle brake yesterday at the plantation range in Whatcom County. I don't know what caliber he was shooting but when that gun went off, even with mega ear protection, it made my ears ring. Luckily he didn't shoot a ton but I definitely had to pay attention to when he was shooting so it didn't mess up my shooting.

Brakes are very loud if you are ALONGSIDE the gun.. from behind, not as loud as you would think.

I do not see the point of putting a muzzle break on a 7mm, however I can see the application on an 8 mag, 274 winchester,  410 rigby (elephant gun), and the 338/374 series for those who do not like to have their shoulders abused, the muzzle break makes a hell of allot of noise, more so at the range to you fellow shooters (that's just a part of shooting). my resolve is if you do not like the way the gun recoils don't buy it. There is  no sense buying a gun that make a shooter flinch because the recoil is to much to handle. buy what you are comfortable with you will be happier in the end do your research find a fellow shooter that is willing to let you shot the caliber you are interested in and see if you like it.

would a muzzle brake help or be dumb on a 300 win mag? i love my 300, but, I also happen to love high grain ammo  :chuckle:  but .. it kicks so hard im not as accurate as I am with other guns.
