Blacktails are nuts. Spotted this guy at 155 an then lost him. Walked down closer an found him at 22 yards bedded. He wouldn't get up so well ....bang. 1.5 miles back to the truck a couple trips with 1 pack. An my buddy got his deer. Today I feel old but it was a damn good day.

Couldn't believe how quiet it was today. First time hunting the opener in years so for some nostalgia I went into where I shot my first solo buck as a kid. I only heard 1 shot the whole day 😬. I did see 2 legal bucks and a band of 9 rams though. I've never seen rams that far west on Chinook pass before so that was neat.
It is foolish and wrong to mourn these men.  Rather, we should thank god that such men lived.  -General George S. Patton

Nice bucks y'all - had 3 different mulies in my sights today but couldn't figure out if they were legal so had to let em go.  One was wild - just stopped while still hunting to take off some layers and caught a glimpse of white - a bedded down buck!  He didnt stick around long - wish this 3 pt min was easier to figure out!
