School me on tents

Getting a little farther back there these days and to come.
What do you run, like, hate and or recommend?
Requirements: stove jack, I’d like to house4 guys and a stove.

4 guys is a lot in one tent unless your in a wall tent. Assuming you’re back packing an 8 man tipi might be what you’re looking for. They take up a large footprint but are sweet set ups. 4 guys, gear and stove would be tight

Ive been running a Northwest Territory 2 person tent that was manufactured sometime in the late 80's. Its starting to get thin in some spots, but the zippers somehow still work.

I bought a smaller MSR hoop tent this year for when Im not with the wife.

You just need to protect yourself from the elements, let your sleeping pad and bag do the heavy lifting of keeping you warm. Get whatever you want to feel comfortable, but you dont need to go crazy to make an extended hunt happen. Dont be a bigger wuss than the homeless.

Personally think you need at least two types of tents.  Obviously if you're back packing in a smaller, water resistant type tent that allows you to get in from the elements to sleep is the way to go go.  If you are at a drive to camp, the bigger the better. When you get older it's tough to get dressed and comfortable in a tent you can't stand up or put a chair in.  Personally I tossed the camp stove a long time ago.  Mr. Heater for me and the biggest warmest sleeping bag I can get.  Camp stoves are a romantic way to go, but I got tired of having to to add wood in the middle of the night, inadvertently burning things (including myself) that got to close. Don't need to prove I'm a tough guy any more, tent camped in virtually all types of weather back before we had a lot of the newer, better gear  and  gotta say it's made camping in my later years a lot easier.

Things can get wet in spring. My old man would love the heat

So our current why we hunt is
10-18 miles of quad ride and camp. So a little bigger tent , the “4 guys and a stove size” would be great.
Then now we would like to take off from there and tent a couple days, so a smaller one and if anymore then me and dad they can bring their own tent.

4 guys?  An 8 man style tipi can fit them, but it would be smart to have a 10 x 12 tarp to let guys cover their packs and misc gear out of the tent, that'll help the space available inside.  The more guys the better the weight/dude ratio works out on the bigger tents.  Spiking out then is a tarp and bivy.  I have a six man and it's a push for 3... same goes for 4 dudes and 8 man tent.  These questions usually can be refined better knowing how far back, how you hunt, seasons you hunt etc.

I would go with a 12-man Seek tipi for basecamp and solo shelters for packing in from there.

The tents discussed are all nice compromises.

Their is zero substitute for a wall tent.
Lots of headroom and space.
A good stove and you will need to open the door to cool down.
Todays lightweight fabric and a 12'x17' is super manageable.
Set it up with poles when you get in there easily with multiple guys.
Add a tarp porch and you have a heated home in the woods 2nd to only a cabin.

I wouldn't think twice if I was using a quad taxi.
