Wife drew Rimrock rifle
« on: September 07, 2023, 11:56:10 AM »
Good evening brothers and sisters

My wife drew the rimrock elk tag this year for rifle season.  She's been applying for elk tags for 19 years.

She's no stranger to hunting and hunting hard, but she's never hunted the back country for multiple days in a row, living out of a pack.
She's super tough but the cold will shut her down so  I'm trying to make this the best experience for her.

We are looking for drop camp outfitters or any other drops getting into the back country.  I have all the gear , just need a drop and pick up.

And any info on the unit or past experience  would be greatly  appreciated.

Look forward  to any help

Aaron n Amy

+1

My dad and I used them last year for the first time and it was a great experience.  Highly recommend.

Tough hunt. I had that tag 6 years ago and ate it. I know the unit well, scouted and hunted hard the whole season. Never had an opportunity at a decent bull. I did pass up a few spikes and small rags early on. A little luck goes a long ways with that tag.

Well that's concerning

I don't mean to be a Debbie Downer but just sharing my experience. I know of 2 bulls that were killed that same year I had the tag. I wasn't as fortunate. Good luck and I hope you guys tag one!

No worries man.  I appreciate any info.  My local reports have been a mixed bag as well.
Any good bull will be great for her.  She's not looking  for the biggest in the unit.

I had an archery tag a handful of years back and killed a solid bull. With that said, a lot has changed since then, mainly the fire which burned up the area I killed mine. There are some good bulls in the unit still and with a rifle in hand, you guys have a good chance and finding a bull to kill. Good luck!
