it's tough to get it steady when you're zoomed into 18x without a tripod or support of some kind

Low light conditions. No.....  no camera will.  the shutter stays open in order to expose the film.  the longer or slower the shutter speed the longer the aperature isopen.  Any movement and you gt blurr.  Thats why its best to use a tripod.

Good for you.  Anything over 400mm or about 12 power and its good to use a tripod.  Occasionally you can still get good pics, but not as likely.  ESPECIALLY in lo light conditions.  You may not know it but a majority of my shots come pre or post shooting hours.  Go outside in the yard at 4:30 PM or 6:30 am and try to get a picture of your favorite songbird or more accurately a car driving by.

on one hand, i think it's the same buck. he's deinitely older, and the rack is a bit smaller. look at his left g-4's...thecrab-clawed look is the same. the white outline around his left eye...follow that outline, it looks the same. tough to say for sure, but i think it might be...but then look at his browtines. last years pic his brows look almost twisty, this year they are straight up and down.
his white throat patch looks very similar, and his right side looks very similar. i can't decide.  i've come back to these pic's a few times. got any of the other ones? i remember that buck's pic's from last year...he's a stud for sure.
