Finally notched my tag
« on: September 16, 2023, 04:51:00 PM »
It's been a long grueling battle, just over 10 years of chasing these coastal Rosie's. Lots of close encounters that should of ended up with many elk always having somthing go wrong. This year I was determined to break my elk curse. After several days of trying to call one of several vocal bulls in, my bull made the mistake and came in on a trail that I thought was 65 yards away. I settle my 60 pin on his chest and watched my arrow fly over his back, he jumped straight up and did a 180 quartering away and I knocked another arrow and kept my composure and settled my 50 yd pin on his chest and let it fly watching my nocturnal disappear in his chest. He took off running into the timber and about 80yds in we heard him gurgling. I went down looking for blood and I could not find any in the first 20-30yds, I backed out back up to the truck where my friends were waiting. After settling down and filling them all in we figured he had to be down not too far into the timber so we grabbed our packs and knives and off we went. My 2 new friends I met out there are bloodhounds and got on blood right away, I just over looked it while dealing with the biggest adrenaline dump I've ever had  :chuckle: following Aaron and Matt and my huntin partner elliot into the timber it wasn't to long and we found him tipped over. My 10 year venture of tagging a Roosevelt elk has finally come to a bittersweet end. Those 3 guys saved me alot of packing, from the time I let the arrow fly to the time we got up to the truck was 3hrs. I couldn't be more thankful for the help those 3 gave me. Now I'm sitting home resting my body waiting for the phone call to repay the favor. Going into deer season will be a little easier knowing there is meat in the freezer.

Something about coastal Rosie's hit different. Probably the misery of rain, salmon berries and blowdowns. But when it comes together... congratulations buddy. Well earned. Also kudos to the strangers/new best friends you only meet in the elk woods.
