Last year by this time I had killed 5-6 and seen a few others, this year I've seen 3 and that was in July, Coweeman.

Went 7 for 11 today with my son who just came off deployment Monday. Saw one bear that didn’t cooperate, and a fawn with no mama.

Best part was being with my son who got tell me sea stories all day, well Navy flying stories from land.🇺🇸⚓️🤣

Oh the old man can still out shoot him, I went 4 for 4, he went 3 for 7.🤣

Cannot post pics, but got a "grouse slam" in central Idaho this week, one each of Blue, Ruff and a spruce!  Beautiful bird and quite delish!

Nice spruce! I popped the top on a couple up high this year deer hunting with my rifle. In the past I have never been fond of spruce grouse but these were great!

Pretty bird... And pretty dumb...

Turkey adder   behind a 75 grain field point to equal 100 grains which is what i shoot. The only tip i use anymore. I've seen waaay too many fly off with a perfect shot with just a field point or a blunt.

Late post. September sometime. Got another one with Bear. He's 10 years old and the drive is still there just like he was a pup, but time is definitely catching up with him. Sure is tough watching them get older.

Time to re-kindle this thread!  Looking back makes us look ahead. We have the memories, and the momentum!

Let's see some more photos from last season and I'll go so far as to share the location.  South Cle Elum Ridge, probably because I'm not planning to hunt there on this year's opener. The bird in this photo is one of three I conked on the 2023 season opener. Great day. Three shots, three birds, and about ten miles hiked! (I'm getting too old for this stuff!)

So i have only taken grouse incidentally while out doing something else.  As I am nearing retirement I am wanting to expand my hunting, fishing, outdoor know how portfolio.  For the guys that actually go target grouse what is the nack to going out and finding enough to make it a day?
