Skull score
« on: June 05, 2009, 06:09:11 PM »
Hello, I just picked up my bear skull from my taxidermist;mount will be done in a few more months. I am pretty new at bear hunting but have been big game hunting for 30 years. My question is my skull scored (19 8/16) dried so how is this for a score? I have been searching with not much luck, any help would be great.

That is a pretty good skull.
In the WA book (2nd edition) that would be in the mid 80's as far as placement.

That would change it to 7th in the current WA book.

Thanks for the reply. I will post a picture when my half mount is done. I am having the bear stepping on a log with one foot and taking another step with the other. Cascade taxidermy is doing my bear.

Not sure on the weight, the consensus in camp was a little over 400lb that was comparing to other bears guys in camp have shot. I boned and caped in the bottom of a cannon. Two meat packs and one pack with the hide&head. The hide &head was my pack and I was squealing on the way out, that pack was close to a 90lb. Thanks to a geat pack frame and friends it went well.
