WDFW CWD testing:
« on: October 04, 2023, 11:40:52 AM »
Copied from a Facebook post:

Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife

With hunting seasons underway and the modern firearm season approaching, a reminder that if you harvest a deer or elk in WDFW’s Region 1 (Asotin, Columbia, Ferry, Garfield, Lincoln, Pend Oreille, Stevens, Walla Walla and Whitman counties) please have it tested for chronic wasting disease (CWD). CWD is a fatal illness of deer, elk, and moose. It has not been detected in Washington but has been confirmed as close as Idaho.

During the modern firearm season, there will be hunter check stations across the region with staff and volunteers testing for CWD. You can find locations and operating days/hours at https://wdfw.wa.gov/.../chronic.../surveillance-program... There are also other options on that page on how to have your animal tested.

If you do the testing, your name goes into a random drawing for 100 multi season deer tags for next year! WDFW teamed up with Washington Chapter of Backcountry Hunters & Anglers who helped purchase the tags, to encourage people to do the testing.

And if you hunt in other states, a reminder that last year Washington changed rules regarding what parts of harvested animals can be brought into the state, in an effort to slow the spread of CWD.

Info on that is at https://wdfw.wa.gov/species.../diseases/chronic-wasting

My level of sarcasm depends on your level of stupidity...

Sarcasm makes smart people laugh and stupid people mad.

Do you go into a drawing for a multi-season tag or do you go into a drawing for a chance to buy a multi-season tag?
I beg to dream and differ from the hollow lies
