Chukar opener
« on: October 11, 2023, 09:59:54 AM »
Managed to find some fast flyers Sunday. Beautiful day to get some exercise. Damned if these birds don't demand respect; both for where they live and how hard to connect. Must have run into 4-5 coveys and shot half a box of shells before the day was over.

Come on Mike if you had a dog you would get more than 1 bird!!!

True! but then I'd gain a "reputation" and have to learn how to count. I don't need either. :chuckle:

Looks like fun. I've only ever chased them around with my truck when they run down the middle of the road in Oak Creek. Never have chased them with a gun. I figure that is probably a lot more work.

The first Chucker hunt is for sport, after that it’s revenge.🤯

That's my type of hunt!! If revenge isn't on the menu. Are you even hunting?

Birds were high this past weekend. Had to climb a couple thousand feet to even get into them. Found tracks in the snow as well.

Boy do I miss allot! Finally switched to number 6's with modified choke in my 12 gauge Franchi Affinity III. Hunting? Revenge shooting is the game with these Devil birds. But they do taste good.

Try the Columbia River breaks between Wenatchee and Chelan Butte! Climb until you find or hear birds then hunt across the slopes. Cheat grass, water and rocky promontories = chukar. Period. The end.

Precarious footing/purchase where I find birds. Sometimes it is not in your self preservation interest to aim and shoot at a passing bird or covey. You could end up... seriously injured shooting at them. Just sayin'.
