Suspended License
« on: October 12, 2023, 12:06:17 PM »
According to a friend, if you fail to submit your hunting reports two years in a row your ability to purchase a license can be suspended for a year.

I called BS.

What's the truth?

I don't think that's true, but then again, I wouldn't know.  Just submit the hunter reports.

With the WDFW going full Anti-Hunter mode I would not put it past them.

TL:DR - no mention of license suspension as a penalty.

WAC 220-413-100

Mandatory report of hunting activity.

(1) All hunters purchasing a hunting license must report their hunting activity for deer, elk, bear, or turkey.

(a) Hunters must report hunting activity, for each tag and permit acquired, by January 31 or within 10 days after the close of an eligible hunt, whichever date is later.

(b) Reports must be made using the department's designated automated telephone hunter reporting system (toll free) or internet hunter reporting system.

(c) A hunter who fails to report hunting activity, for each tag and permit acquired, by the reporting deadline is in violation of reporting requirements.

(d) Compliance will be credited for each transport tag and permit acquired.

(2) As an incentive for prompt reporting, all hunters who report by midnight January 10 or within 10 days after the last day of their permit hunt will be entered into a drawing for special deer and elk incentive permits. To be eligible for the drawing, hunters must report their hunting activity for each transport tag and permit acquired.

(3) A hunter who fails to report hunting activity by the reporting deadline for deer, elk, bear, or turkey tags and permits acquired the previous year will be required to pay a $10 administrative fee at the time a new license that includes deer, elk, bear, or turkey tags is issued.

(4) All hunters who purchase a migratory bird authorization must report their hunting activity for each harvest record card issued.

(a) Hunters must report harvest information from band-tailed pigeon harvest record cards by September 30 following the season for which the harvest card was issued. Hunters must report harvest information from brant, sea duck, snow goose, and SW Canada goose (Goose Management Area 2 Coast and Inland) harvest record cards by March 20 following the season for which the harvest card was issued.

(b) Hunters must report migratory bird hunting activity at the department's designated internet site listed on the harvest record card, or by mailing all harvest record cards to the department at: P.O. Box 43141, Olympia, WA 98504.

(c) Any hunter who fails to report, for each harvest record card acquired, by the reporting deadlines is in violation of reporting requirements.

(d) Compliance will be credited for each harvest record card acquired.

(5) A hunter who fails to report hunting activity by the reporting deadlines for band-tailed pigeon, brant, sea duck, snow goose, or SW Canada goose harvest record card acquired in the previous hunting season must pay a ten-dollar administrative fee at the time a new migratory bird authorization and harvest record card is issued.

(6) A hunter may only be required to pay a maximum of one ten-dollar administrative fee for all game species reporting violations during a license year.

for that to be true it has to be contained within WAC or RCW.  A search on the WA Leg site has nothing to that effect.  WAC 220-413-100 says nothing about 2 years in a row.  So, yes...you were correct in calling BS.
Introduce someone new to hunting this year.

That's BS.
The state likes that 10.00 fee.
They care more about the money than the report
Probably 1/2 the people don't tell the truth anyways.

They do have it in the proposals to change the 10 dollar penalty for each specie you don’t report

Ten dollar fine for not reporting  I paid mine today to buy my deer tag. An ill continue to pay it this is year 7 for me not reporting.  Because I either forgot or don't care what the system thinks. Not that they pay attention anyways to our advice or reports. Washington sucks but I still hunt when I can.

Pretty sure you can’t not report. You can’t buy your hunting license the next year until you do.

" In today's instant gratification society, more and more pressure revolves around success and the measurement of one's prowess as a hunter by inches on a score chart or field photos produced on social media. Don't fall into the trap. Hunting is-and always will be- about the hunt, the adventure, the views, and time spent with close friends and family. " Ryan Hatfield

I think I forgot to submit a report for waterfowl from the 2021 season. Bought my license in person for the 2022 season and had to pay the fine and tell the cashier I shot 10 ducks in 16 trips to fill the report out before I could complete the license transaction. That was embarrassing :chuckle:

Have they fixed their computer so people aren’t getting fined even when they did file their reports on time? That happened to me more than once.

:yeah:  They don't need to know my personal hunting info.  WDFW can't mange their way out of a wet paper bag. I can assure all, our reporting hasn't and won't do anything but prove how obedient even hunters can be.  :twocents:

Heck sometimes they try to charge you the $10 even when you've reported :chuckle:  They tried that on my daughter a few years ago. Unfortunately for them and fortunately for us, I save all the confirmation numbers of the reports  8)

I'm kinda on the fence ,about reporting.
I have been honest and reported so far.
Even was a day late on cougar one time, called and reported over the phone. They was like sorry for your luck.
Figured for sure I was paying the 10 bucks on my next license.
But never charged me.

But with the commissions view of best available science.
Pretty much taking a dump 💩 on the reporting.
Acting as if harvest reports are not good enough to set a season.
Harvest reports are not good enough to show population trends.

I can't really defend any reason WHY ,we should report or be honest on the report.
So that's my view or opinion. :twocents:

Did you get out of paying the $10? I sent them the confirmation number once & was told tough luck for you. Pay the fine or don’t hunt this year. That’s when I really started hunting out of state & I never hunted in Washington again.

I did. I forwarded the licensing gal the confirmation email of her report and they fixed it.

This is an old topic but if you are logged onto your account when reporting...you can see your submitted report in your history.  Easiest way to do it vs trying to save your confirmation numbers.  If it ever comes into question it's right there on your log in.
