Came across a dandy 3 point this morning stuck in a fence up the road from my place. Pretty sure he's one of the progeny of the monster black tail I've had chasing does every few years in my field. He had a broken two point tine jammed up in his rack as well as a bunch of horse fencing. I managed to cut him loose from the fence and not get gored but boy he was pissed. He still had about 15' of it trailing behind him though that I couldn't get to before he took off. I hope he manages to keep from getting all tangled up in something else.

Get any pics?

Seems the same every year. All the town and yard bucks are rutting through the season. But the true woods bucks only come out when season is ending.  :chuckle:

This guy was hot on a doe near my house this morning.

First action of the season for me, a healthy 2 pt walked under my stand 15 minutes ago. He was trailing and checking the air, snuck in on me to 20 yards. Still haven’t seen a big buck on cameras, but everyday there is more daylight activity.

I still haven't seen any day time activity on the cams. Very nocturnal still

This old portly fork horn started to show himself last year about the same time. He showed up just after last light yesterday evening to lay a rub down on a historical rub tree. He looks the exact same (headgear wise) as he did last year. I like big fork horns but he’s an old one and makes BIG rubs on bigger trees. It’s fun to see.

Typically, year over year, the 24th pre-rut urges have them on their feet laying down sign on the edges of their zones at first and last light. Should just keep getting better through the end of this week. Especially with this cold front tomorrow and Wednesday.

Cold front coming in this week - could be just what we need to kick up the action.  Good luck out there, folks!

Doe with fawns at first light today, then a rutty spike came in at 1130 on my scent trail. He raked a poor fern to death, pissed all over his hind legs, then strutted away. Couldn’t help but laugh how some big buck will whoop his butt in the next week. More activity for me and the cameras are picking up more action, this weekend will be fun.

That's a pretty-looking shot.

Sniffing hard for sure.  Waiting for things to hopefully turn on here the last weekend on the wetside.
