Had a fabulous time in Utah
« on: October 17, 2023, 12:20:34 PM »
Hunting above 10k ft. Is no joke, one of the hardest hunts  I have ever done. What a beautiful place though if you ever get the chance you should go.

You earned it for sure. That is some rough, high country.  Hiked into the various lakes around there when I was young. Suspect the altitude would do me in now

Congrats Ross! Great bull. Awesome country.

That's a dandy for sure, very nice!

I've spent a fair amount of time at Copper Mtn. Colorado the base elevation is a little under 10K and you are spot on those kinds of elevations are no joke and everything is harder.  You have to make sure you drink plenty of water because the headaches can be brutal if you don't.  You acclimate after a few days but there's just no way around it, everything is harder at those elevations.

Congrats on a successful hunt.  I went on a DIY hunt with my brother 20+ years ago and remember the first couple of days at high altitude!  Great bull!

You should go back in the summer and hike a little.in those Uintah mountains.  Dotted with small fishing  lakes and truly beautiful country. That mountain range is the only range in the US that runs east/west.  Almost entirely wilderness and still.quite pristine. Certainly a good area to ready you for possible high altitude hunts later on.  Good memories of that country in my youth.
