Thoughts on Rem 700 XCR Stainless in 375H&H
« on: October 18, 2023, 09:29:58 PM »
I'm not really a Remington guy, so hoping the guru's here can chime in.  Guy moving out of town is offering me a Mod 700 XCR Stainless in 375 H&H for a decent price.  He says it's a 2009 or 2010, round count about 70.  It's been hunted, but the owner is a knife maker and super finicky about cleaning and maintenance.

From what I understand, this wasn't a great era for the 700's.  Is the general consensus that there is "some good, some bad" 700's from that era?  Or are they just basically low quality overall and to be avoided? What should I look for when I check it out in person?  He's got all the spent cartridges that go with it, if there is a clue to be found on those.

I don't really "need" this 375, but... you know.  :chuckle:

Thanks in advance -

Don't know anything about 700's. But I will say the 375 H&H is a good bear/moose round. The guides I hunted with on Vancouver Island had 375's or 45-70's. Now they tote 416 Ruger's.
Tell Jake I'm sending 30 more on Friday.

I'm seeing him tomorrow to hand off the last batch and pickup the brand new brass - I'll send you a tracking # when it's enroute!

I own a 700 stainless in 30-06, it's been a great rifle.  I don't know what year I got it, I picked it up at the GI Joes going out of business sale for $350   :chuckle:, probably about that timeframe.

The triggers are no bueno, so plan to slap a timney or whatever is your favorite.  Everybody makes stuff for a 700, so it's easy to put whatever you want on it.

I would buy one again.
