Youth Hunt - Olympic GMU Advice
« on: October 23, 2023, 10:41:39 AM »
Hello,

My son drew the youth hunt this year.  We got a 5 day head start to the general modern firearm season, but with school and football, we were only able to get out two of those days.  He did get a shot at a little spike, but missed.  Now that the general modern season is underway, we have been out a couple of times and only see other hunters and zero deer.  We are hunting DNR land around Lake Cushman.  I had him apply for this area because there used to be large sections of DNR land that was locked up that we could hike and bike into.  I used to see deer in the area when it was locked up.  Now that it is wide open to drive in, I have seen very few deer or even deer tracks.  That was a long rant, but I wanted to see if anyone had any tips for the area.  He wants to get a buck, but has the doe option with the youth tag.

Thanks all.
