New dies for my 300 win mag

I am setting up new dies for my 300 win mag.  When i ran my first bullets through I had a little dimple just below the bevel in the casing.  I backed the die off a little same thing.  I've done this about 4 times and still that dimple. What am I doing wrong?

Are you getting this during sizing or seating??  Also, a pic would be a great help.  Sounds like you are pushing the shoulder back to far, but not sure without more info.

It was happening when he was sizing it. We continued to back it off until it didn't put a dimple in it anymore. He had it so the neck was being pushed down to far into the case.

ive heard to much case lube when sizing can dimple and even cause the neck to crease or crush. ive never had it happen to me so  but maybe something to look at

It is mainly a problem I have found in belted magnum brass.  For some reason they are the only brass, I have do this.

do you mean with to much case lube? if so that may be the answer here with a 300

I had asked the same question some time back and found that too much case lube was the problem. If you get the spray lube you can put the cases in a zipplock bag, spray in some lube, and shake the bag. That was my fix and it worked good. After trying to load the last time though, my set screws kept comming loose and then I stripped out the end where the allen wrench goes in so I have to get a new set screw. I have'nt been shooting much lately so no need to reload. Good luck

i reload a fair amount of 300 winny and ive always just used a lube pad and rolled the cases with my hand. never had a damaged or stuck case. a little of that lube goes a long way

Everytime that happens when I'm reloading is because I got lube on the shoulder of the brass.  If you keep it off the shoulder it should'nt happen.

To much lube or setting the sizing die to deep or not chamfering the case mouth before seating bullets will all cause the shoulder to be pushed back or to put creases and dimples in your cases.

For lube I use Hornady One Shot, it is a spray that does not harm powder or primers, and dries in about a minute.  Then it is like a dry graphite.  I love the stuff, will not use anything else.

Belted mags, are the biggest offenders of having problems if you set your sizing die to deep.  I have mine set so it only sizes the neck and about 1/2 the length of the case.

Thanks for the info guys.  I backed off the die a little and that worked.  I think it was pushing down on the collar a little too tight. Onward to a 100 rounds.
