Desert where’s the big one?
« on: October 25, 2023, 12:38:23 PM »
That’s the question  :chuckle my dad got drawn we’ve been here since two days before it opened lots of hiking and glassing seeing plenty of does and small bucks and a couple decent bucks but not the one he’s dreamt about seeing in the famous desert unit if anyone has some good intel that would be greatly appreciated! If he ends up being successful I will be sure to post some pics here

There were more tags than usual issued in that unit this year. At least that’s what it seams like. I’m sure someone here knows that actual stats but should be lots of hunter competition.
A remarkable experience is one where the pain is forgotten so quickly, the frustrations and struggles are forgotten the minute you’re done.

I can’t wait to do it the next time.

Same with my ol man.  What tags he got?

I won't be any help until after he gets his but then happy to share intel or lend a hand anytime on a packout.

PM if you wanna connect

18-20 has been the norm lately for the early hunt, this year was 18. Hank tell your Dad to stay positive and keep grinding it out, these last few days of the season will be the best. Don't give up right when it starts getting good!

These days seeing deer there isn't a problem. But seeing a big buck well thats a different story. Best of luck. Have a fun hunt and enjoy the area.

Nothing specific to add, but good luck to your dad! I hope he connects with a good one.

I saw a picture of a 7x7 toad that was reportedly taken out of the unit on the opener.  Don't have any other specifics.  Hopefully you guys can find something similar!  My dream hunt!

The early modern.  Good for him and you for going along.  Hope something big presents itself these last few days.  Like others said, stay positive and keep grinding it out.

We'll be in there in November so looking forward to the later season action.

Saw one of the legends of the unit last winter. They are there and you will know when you see one.
