Williams FP sight issue - or non-issue???
« on: October 25, 2023, 07:16:46 PM »
Found 2 sources of peep sight movement on the Williams FP sight mounted on my Knight Bighorn. The first is that the peep insert had backed out quite a ways from the threaded hole it mounts in. In addition, I found that this entire peep housing, which slides on a threaded rod for Left-Right adjustment also has a bit of play and wobbles.

Resolving the first is simple - crank it down hard, maybe use thread lock, and check regularly. The second, I'm not quite sure.

Reaching out to others with this same sight to see if they have had similar experiences, how addressed, or maybe this just isn't substantial enough to worry about???

Mine had the same problem. I realized I missed one of the big set screw circled in yellow. Tightened it up and all is well.

Thanks for taking the time fellas!

It's been a couple years since I've needed to make any adjustments and apparently forgot how to operate this simple piece of gear.

I've now checked and tightened the set/lockdown screw on the left side of the sight. The wobble is still there. It's the hollow arched piece sitting stop the base that the peep screws into. The play in it seems to be associated with the threaded rod for adjusting windage and the tapped threads on this piece. Maybe gotten sloppy through use/wear and tear?

I may be sweating something that isn't that big of a deal. But, I think I'll try to get a hold of Williams about this and get their take

Have you tightened the two set screws on the back of the sight. I believe it’s the one on the right that keeps the left and right adjustment from moving after you set it where you want it. You shouldn’t have any movement in the sight.

Thanks BigVinn! With every possible screw tightened, the part still moves. Ended up calling Williams and they are helping with a potential fix vs. replacement

Closing the loop on this so that anyone in the future can reference this and to shout out for Williams Gun Sight Co.

I called and spoke with Brian @ WGS last week. Described the issue and asked if it could be repaired vs. replaced. He seemed certain it was the tapped threads on the aperture holder (aluminum). He mailed one out free of charge, told me where to find the disassembly video on their website and said to call back if replacing that part didn't fix it.

The part arrived Wednesday and I completed the swap this morning. It's now rock solid and time to find a place to re-sight the ole smokepole
