Utah making more changes
« on: October 30, 2023, 01:30:06 PM »
Looks like they are considering some interesting changes.  Experimenting with a unit for 4 points or better (not counting eye guards), creating archery units with long bows only, doing away with optics on muzzle loaders, and shortening all seasons for all weapons in many units.  They've already outlawed baiting and game cam use during the hunting season. Be interesting to see if any of these tactics work out in their attempts to restore the deer herds. Seems a lot of hunters there want to back off what they consider high tech hunting.

Was just reading through all that. Not sure any of it will have a measurable affect though.  I just got back from Southern Utah and the hunting was dismal. No amount of restrictions or predator control is gonna help those deer. Fire is the only thing they could do in there to significantly bump numbers :twocents:

I'm always leery of changes there because of the heavy sfw influence.  If they had their way the basic hunters would be severely restricteded and hunting would be restricted to those willing to pay big money for the privilege.  They fill big game is an asset that shouldn't be sold so cheaply to the basic hunter.

We're just a cwd outbreak and an extremme winter away from the same thing here.  Was warned by family and friends in Utah  not to bother buying a permit this year. Been tough the last couple years down there. But that hard winter totally finished off some areas. Beyond dismal in many past game rich areas
