Gifford Pinchot Late Season Archery
« on: October 30, 2023, 08:31:00 PM »
After punching my blacktail tag in early september all i can do is watch in angst as more and more stud bucks hit the ground. In my spare time I've been watching a few videos of guys getting it done year after year in the late season and it started it give me a little itch to try it. Was curious if anyone on here has had success chasing after blacktails in the late archery season specifically in the GP NF? I'm SW washington based so I would be targeting either the Siouxon or Lewis for that late season hunt but dont really know a ton about either unit

One of my friends told me not to even bother with Siouxon in the late hunt because all those deer migrate down into the Wind River once the snow hits which seemed like an overly simplistic explanation but I wasnt able to refute it with experience. Any tips or advise is greatly appreciated

I spend a lot of time in the GP Lewis River unit and would not make it a destination for deer hunting. Deer numbers are a little better now, they seem to be recovering. But I just think lack of clear cutting has made it less than ideal habitat. And lots of cougars. I see a very discouraging amount of deer, even while elk hunting in some pretty prone rut time.

I agree, same with the areas around Packwood

You might find some areas that are good in warmer weather years, but late archery is a tough go that time of year for GP.

I would agree the wind river unit is probably going to hold more late season critters
In God we trust, all others bring cash.

Do not say, Why were the old days better than these? For it is not wise to ask such questions.
