Just got home from WY
« on: November 02, 2023, 10:37:06 PM »
10 days at home after finishing a 2 month season .   Son and I pulled a group tag in a tough unit if you don't get weather to cooperate, and it didn't.  Son had 2 weeks at end of rifle season after more than six thousand miles of flight time at both ends.  I made the trip during archery and totally blew the one opportunity I had on a public land DIY hunt.  Stalked it for a mile and had to turn around at private.  Should have waited longer.
Came back a few days layer for October, rifle season, ground it out and tagged 3 for 3 in party before it was over.  Came back with a freezer full of meat and lots of quality time with son and brother.  I feel blessed.

We were.  Type 1 either sex.  We drew the 2 tags available in our unit choice for NR random category with 59 applicants.  I took a 5x6, son got a spike.  Resident brother spent majority of his time helping us and settled for a cow.  Only had one snowstorm late in season that did little to move the elk.  Got to cover a lot of ground to find them in the sagebrush.  I hunted 8 days during archery and 8 during modern before killing a 5x6.
