Happy 248th Birthday, Marines
« on: November 10, 2023, 07:05:48 AM »
Happy 248th birthday to all of my Devil Dog fiends out there. This is your day. The Marine Corps was founded on this day in 1775 at Tun Tavern in Philadelphia, PA. Our lives and liberty have been safer ever since. Ooh-rah!

Happy birthday Marines! Our office lady is R Lee Ermey's niece. She was just showing me this video this morning, pretty cool. Volume up

I have few close friends. Most of them are Jarheads. I know who I can depend on. My friend Robert "Rocky" Kemp passed away at the age of 84 almost a year ago after a long battle with cancer. He's member #198 of the USMC Scout Sniper Association. A few years ago, he gave me this hardcover of Marine Sniper, inscribed by Gny Carlos Hathcock at the Shot Show in LV. It's one of my treasured possessions and Rocky, one of my treasured friends forever. RIP. Never Forget.

That book is a treasure! Carlos was one of a kind. I still can't understand why the Marine Corps birthday celebration was cancelled.

That book is a treasure! Carlos was one of a kind. I still can't understand why the Marine Corps birthday celebration was cancelled.

"Marine Corps Forces Central Command, which is in charge of the service's operations in an increasingly unstable Middle East currently roiled by last month's surprise Hamas attack on Israel, announced Wednesday that it would be canceling its annual Marine Corps ball due to "unforeseen operational commitments and the nature of our current mission."

A spokesperson for the command, also known as MARCENT, told Military.com after the announcement that the cancellation of the ball was a "prudent measure," given the situation unfolding out of Israel."

It doesn't make sense to me, either, unless there's a plan to move some boots that would coincide with the Ball. Or, the joint chiefs may have cancelled it for fear that people would be addressed by the wrong pronouns. This is a very unusual occurrence.
