•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

This is the spot my former buddy gave up on twice the first year we found it but I kept scouting it and found great hunting.  The year of these pics was when my Dad passed away and had to miss that season to do my executive duties while working full time, holidays, funeral arrangements, and lawyer appointments. I agreed he could take a friend during this difficult time for me and fast forward he never got me invites to his friends spots to this day. Been good for him because drought has really crippled that spot for past 2 years.

Find out later the former hunting partner punished me for my free speech the only way he could breaking all ties with me because I made a post about high gas prices and duck numbers falling according to DU. But for some reason it looked ok for him to post pics here of our spot. I won’t say if I know the people in the pics but seems weird with face pics here but I’m a 1000% positive that is our spot. 😉

And? Move out and carry on. Sucks to have this happen but it is how we pick up and excel that matters.

Yeah, my 55 years of hunting experience says there are really no "our spot" or 'secret spot' that no one knows about. Worse now with all the aps and better maps.
People hunt area's, stop using them, new people start using them. Then becomes "Our spot" to them.
Get over it, move on, or blame your buddy if you want to and hold it against him. Maybe he did, maybe he did not. Either way, the cycle continues.

My conscience gave an inch and lost a mile in the long run because my father died in the middle of the season that year. Hunters between hunters are not family or even friends for sure.  I definitely moved on but not with a hunting license or stamp because public is over hunted, developed, and duck populations way down these days. Just sharing my experiences only like how he gave up on that spot and could have kept it a secret from him but chose not to keep it for only me. But now I’m out for no real reasons given other than some facts of today’s challenges for hunting I posted on this forum were viewed negatively such as high gas prices.  So you want to be a waterfowler? Lol

I hunt public land and have incredible hunts every season. I bring folks out every year just to show them the bounty. I very much miss my father who got me into the outdoor sports. Only serious complaining you'll get from me in waterfowling is that damn job taking up so much good time. I'd be happy to drag yer butt out for a stellar shoot if it would rekindle that lost intetest.

I’m on east side and if you come over send me a pm, maybe a beverage on my dad’s deck I inherited? I asked my former partner to come over last week and he texted me to kick rocks.

My cousin’s boy asked me about hunters ed and getting into duck hunting with me and my former partner which he doesn’t know what has happened.  The kid is still a few years away but time flies because haven’t hunted in two years and no license purchase last year.

I'd say buy a license and take the youngster out. Maybe it will help you rekindle your desire for hunting and if not, at least you will have the opportunity to help pass hunting onto the next generation. The spot your former partner posted pics of is not "his" spot as its public land, so just make sure to be there before him.  :twocents:

Thanks man, the basic math of high gas prices as one example will make it nearly impossible for only one to pass on hunting in today’s environment.  Too bad many assume instead of educating themselves understanding if they don’t play they don’t pay.

Where are you and the youngster located? We hunt the eastside several times a year, so maybe we can work something out to get you guys out there too. Everything costs something, so look at it as though you got to pay to do what you enjoy. I spend way too much on playing outdoors and look at it as I can only do what I enjoy so often, but I can always make more money. Here's to hoping you get the kid out in the field and make some great memories.

That would be cool. The youngster is in the family who showed interest on the east side. Some basic barriers with his parents since they don’t hunt. Was hoping to get them to a gathering with my former hunting partner for almost 10 years and his young hunting family.  I trusted him and could be more difficult for my young family member even taking hunters ed.

My former hunting partner refuses to do his part to keep others involved in hunting if they talk about the challenges we face pointed out in this article.  Will probably be my 3rd year without a license since no one to hunt with due to his poor decisions of (his way or the highway) treatment towards other hunters.

Really confused here. You won't hunt because of his poor decisions? Is he the only human you know? Sounds as though there is more going on here than just 'hunting partners'. Really, it does. Find some new areas and enjoy.
