Not sure how to ask this, but I was taking my 75yo handicap FIL out for late buck season and we were road hunting on some logging roads glassing clear-cuts.
We seen a handful of bucks down a hill and across a draw. Approximately 400yds away and 150yds off the road on the otherside of the draw. There are other trucks up and down the road, but none of then stopped so guessing they didn't see them. I had a spotting scope out and set up about the 3rd or 4th truck stopped and got out to look with us. The couple commented a few times they were too far away. Once a few of them bedded down we told them we were going to drive over and see if we could find a better angle. We couldn't so we went back to our original position and the guy had his rifle set up and was getting ready to shoot. He looked at me and said one was a spike. I told him there were 3 spikes and a 2pt and asked that he give us some space to let us watch them in hopes they feed closer to the road for my FIL. He obliged and packed up.
I felt bad for asking and was happy he agreed to leave. But I was also a little pissed that he was trying to set up to take a shot after telling us he wouldn't.
As far as hunting I've always been told any animal another hunter was pursuing was theirs. Not sure how that applies to road hunters.
