How cold is too cold for a bow?
« on: November 24, 2023, 11:52:52 AM »
Well, not that duck season is done here, it’s time to get the focus hard onto deer. The temps awhile after sunrise are close to zero, and it has me wondering, how cold is to cold to shoot a bow? I shoot a Bowtech Carbon Zion.

I hammered a nice 4x when it was below zero.   Overnight on the buck when I was cutting him up, the merc dipped to -20 below.

Unless it got heavily iced up somehow I think you’d tap out before your bow would

Shot a cow one late season when it was in the single digits. You should be fine.

I have noticed that my bows trajectory is a bit different when really cold. Something to think about.

Bow hunted Montana when it was 7 below..Did shoot and miss . Bow held up fine...1985 PSE Lazer Magnum

I shoot with fingers and elk leather glove..no sights..It was challenging keeping my shooting fingers warm.

Practice in the cold and find out. Keep your hands and release in your pockets. Those little heater bags help if you get cold. You can buy a large box at Costco for $15 or something.

If you use a drop away rest make sure it functions properly when colder out, the cold seams to shrink the linkage just enough it won't drop out correctly or fast enough and will contact fletching missed a few shots because of it..
