Well now that all the meat is cut up and the camper and gear is all cleaned and put away it is time to reminisce about the year. We always put in as a group, dad and 3 sons, and this year we drew the Margaret cow tags. So we had 4 cow tags headed into the season. We tried to scout some but life and responsibilities got in the way but we had made it up twice and seen a lot of the places that normally held elk had been logged or were currently being logged. So Friday before season we set up camp and drove around and glassed trying to find places with fresh sign. Opening morning my younger brother and I got into a small herd of 10 cow/calves but could not get a good clean shot off, no more elk seen that day, second day seen 15 elk but all running for the hills with no chances at them. Third day we found a small hear with 2 legal bulls, a spike and 5 cows. We ended up getting a 4 point bull out of that group. Three more days of hunting and we always seemed to be just a little behind/late. On the way back to camp on the third night I see elk running through the trees and get out and head up the hill in pursuit and get a nice large cow.
